Central Government Scheme
1) Women & Child Development Project Under Support To Training & Employment Programme (STEP)
This programme was implemented for the following 19 districts in IV Phases with 90% financial assistance from the Govt. of India.

The main objective of this project was to make the economical and social progress of women in rural areas. Under STEP programme of Government of India in Dairy sector. Primary Dairy Co.op. Societies exclusively owned and managed by rural women. The project was started in the year 1998. The total sanctioned amount was Rs. 1685.02 lakhs, from which the total fund received is Rs.488.13 lakhs from the Central Government. Now near about 454 Women Dairy Co.op. Societies have been registered in these districts covering nearly 30000 beneficiaries.

Milk testing equipments, milk cans, trevis, LN2 containers, First Aid Box etc. are provided under the scheme. For ensuring timely payment to the milk producers, working capital is provided in cash. Similarly, for facilitating purchase of milch animals, seed etc. fund is provided to all societies in cash. Besides this, adequate and effective training is provided to achieve the following.
  • Active participation in the decision making process of the institution
  • Economic independence by earning their own income
  • A fair degree of sensitization in the field of health, education, legal literacy etc.
  • Unity of purpose and spirit of solidarity.
 
2) Intensive Dairy Development Programme (IDDP PHASE III)
This is 100% centrally financed scheme, which is implemented by Dudh Mahasangh in the hilly and economically backward districts of Maharashtra namely : Latur, Nagpur, Amravati, Nanded & Nandurbar. The project was started in the year 2005. The total fund sanctioned is Rs. 1000.30 lakhs from which the total fund received is Rs. 929.30 lakhs from Govt. of India and utilized for milk processing and marketing, milk procurement, input services, man power development and evaluation.
 
3) National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD)
India produced 155.5 million tonnes of milk in 2015-16, up 6.28% from the 146.3 million tonnes produced in the 2014-15 period. Compared to last year, the per capita availability of milk has also gone up, albeit marginally, to 337 grams per day from 322 grams per day in 2014-15.

National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD) under the Central Sector Scheme "National Programme for Bovine Breeding and Dairy Development". The scheme will be implemented with the an allocation of Rs 1,800 crore during the 12th Five year plan (2013-14 to 2016-17). Spill over activities of the project will be extended to 13th Five year Plan.

The scheme will have two components (a) National programme for Bovine Breeding (NPBB) and (b) National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD). NPBB will focus amongst other things on extension of the Field Artificial Insemination (AI) Net work, monitoring of AI programme, development and conservation of indigenous breeds and establishment of breeders association and societies to encourage conservation and development of recognized indigenous breeds.

The NPDD component of NPBBD scheme has been designed to develop infrastructure from the grass root level providing financial and technical assistance for dairy development. NPDD will focus on creating infrastructure related to production, procurement, processing and marketing by milk unions/ federation and also extension activities including training of farmers. NPDD will be implemented on 100% grant-in-aid basis for all components, except for the following activities.
  1. Installation of bulk milk coolers
  2. Milk processing plants
  3. Milk powder plants and
  4. Rehabilitation Milk union / federation

Central Government appoint MAHARASHTRA STATE MILK FEDERATION (MRSDMM), Mahanand as Implement Agency in Maharashtra. This programme is in the initial stage.
